President and CEO
Melissa Smith joined WEX in 1997. After progressively gaining greater responsibilities and participating in WEX’s dramatic growth, she rose to her current position as leader of the global corporate payments company. Melissa is passionate about growing WEX to create challenging and rewarding careers where employees are able to develop, contribute and advance within the company.
A finance expert by training, she previously played a pivotal role as WEX’s chief financial officer, leading the company through a highly successful initial public offering and focusing on its growth as a public company. Her record of execution, continuous improvement, and increased responsibilities for WEX’s business operations led to her appointment as president of the Americas, and ultimately as president and CEO of the entire company. As CEO, Melissa has responsibility for the company’s day-to-day global operations and its long-term strategic growth. She also serves as a WEX board member.
Melissa is an active member of her community and was named The Girl Scouts of Maine’s 2013 Woman of Distinction, and a Mainebiz 2012 Woman to Watch. Recognised as an industry leader, Melissa was named the PYMNTS.com 2014 Most Innovative Woman in Payments and a PaymentsSource 2014 Most Influential Woman in Payments. She serves on the Centre for Grieving Children’s Board of Directors and participates in the Executive Women’s Forum, which she co-founded to provide a support network for female executives in her local community.
Melissa began her career at Ernst & Young and earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration from the University of Maine.
Rick Rose joined the Australian WEX team in July 2017 as Managing Director with vast experience as a senior executive in the payments industry.
Rick’s previous role as Managing Director and Senior Vice President of Mastercard Prepaid Management Services for Asia Pacific provides a strong foundation for the future growth of WEX in the Asia Pacific region. He has an in depth understanding of the Asia Pacific marketplace and drove over 60% of the global revenue for Prepaid Management Services in his time at Mastercard.
He has lead product developments in Australia, India, Korea, China, Japan and New Zealand in addition to other parts of South-east Asia.
Rick holds a Bachelor of Arts (Mathematics) from Minnesota State University, USA. Rick also served as an officer and helicopter pilot for the United States Army National Guard, Aviation Branch from 1987-2000.
Human Resources Manager
Andrea joined WEX in 2015 as Human Resources Manager. She leads a small, talented team and has oversight of all HR functions for Australia and Asia. Andrea works collaboratively with the WEX HR team in Portland, Maine and is part of the global HRBP team. She is an experienced Human Resources professional who has also worked at Australia Post, NAB and AXA across a broad range of client groups.
Andrea holds a Bachelor of Science and a Postgraduate Diploma in Industrial Relations from the University of Melbourne, and a Postgraduate Diploma in Psychology and a Masters in Applied Psychology (Occupational) from Monash University. She is also accredited in a number of HR-specific tools.
Chief Financial Officer
Guy joined WEX in April 2012 as Chief Financial Officer with extensive experience in financial, business and Information Technology management across multiple industries including professional practice, resources, Information Technology and financial services.
As CFO of WEX in Australia, Guy is responsible for formulating business objectives and strategies including implementation and delivery management.
Guy holds a Bachelor of Business (Accounting) and also a Masters in Information Systems with a particular interest in solution architecture, data warehousing and analytics. He is an associate member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia and New Zealand and serves on the Board of Edmund Rice Camps Victoria as Treasurer.
Head of Client Services and Risk
Lisa is WEX’s Head of Risk and Client Services, having joined us in 2012 following an extensive career with the WEX parent company in Maine, USA.
Her responsibilities include the development of strategies for continuous improvement of the risk management functions and client service operations to ensure the ongoing health of the WEX portfolio. Lisa has carriage for monitoring all departmental activities, mentoring, coaching, budgeting, capacity planning and Performance Management.
As a results oriented professional with more than 24 years of successful managerial experience within Commercial Credit Risk Management, Collections and Accounting with a strong focus on customer experience, Lisa is a valuable asset to the Australian leadership team.
Lisa holds a Bachelor’s of Arts degree in Finance, from Simmons College, Boston.
Marketing and Product Director
Susan Nicholson joined the WEX team in 2013 as Head of Marketing before taking on her current role as Director of Marketing and Product. She is a senior professional with depth and experience in through the line marketing leadership, adopting an integrated approach to the development and promotion of WEX’s products and services.
Her focus is to ensure that WEX’s offer remains competitive and the company continues to offer innovative new products and services for existing and emerging markets.
Before WEX, Susan held senior roles at GE in both the consumer and commercial businesses. Susan spent over 13 years at Wesfarmers (formally Coles Myer) working across the retail group with deep experience in all the companies’ major card and loyalty programs.
She serves on the Women in Payments Advisory Board and is also a member of the Australian Institute of Marketing. Susan holds a Bachelor’s degree in Economics from La Trobe University and a Masters in Marketing from Monash University.
